2021… what can I say. We had a lot of practice in 2020, which made 2021 a lot more palatable… even more enjoyable. Different ways of being, of working, etc. What I really miss are the business trips – an important part of work – making connections, physically collaborating and co-creating with colleagues and partners abroad, sampling wonderful new cultures, delicacies, and sceneries…
Regardless of the challenges associated with remote collaborations, impact is still achieved by the partners in their local communities, further building and establishing our collective knowledge, insights, and practice. Thank you for the commitments and consistent collaborations. A humbling experience! Check out current projects – also featured as part of the GameChangers initiative.
GameChangers has been a key vehicle for our ludic research, design, development, and practice. Our playful and game-based learning research has been recognised internationally since it was first launched in 2015. We recently won the QS Reimagine Education Award (the ‘Oscars’of Education) for the Science of Learning, where our initiative – ‘GameChangers: Educators as agents of change through playful pedagogy’ – was shortlisted out of over 1100 applicants. Winning GOLD for that category means a lot to us. Such a fantastic way to end 2021 and to welcome 2022!
GameChangers has also been included in an impact case for the Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF2021) submission. We will continue to build on the lessons learned, best practices, and emerging insights from our GameChangers activities. There are various interesting new research ideas lined up for 2022. We have also recently won an award from the British Academy that will support the development of one of the project ideas for Horizon Europe. Looking forward to developing our new research and the associated consortium in January!
So 2021 has been both challenging and exciting, a year of deep reflections that sets a strong foundation for what’s to come in 2022. Watch this space!
